Fluoride in Water

 In News

Optimal dental care is essential for everyone’s health. In Canada, and around the world, tooth decay is one of the major oral health problems that people encounter in their lives. To prevent decay, at Dr. Parekh and Associates, we support the use of fluoride in water.

Fluoridation of water is an effective way to prevent and decrease the number of people affected by dental caries. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), WHO (World Health Organization), ADA (American Dental Association), and CDA (Canadian Dental Association) and more organizations around the world support fluoridation in drinking water at a certain level to fight off tooth decay.

More than 70 years of studies also revealed that water fluoridation helps in reducing the incidence of dental caries in many communities around the globe. In fact, in a recent study of fluoridation in water and its association in dental caries confirmed that fluoride in drinking water prevents tooth decay.

In Canada, the optimal level of fluoride in water is 0.7 milligrams per liter (mg/L). This level takes into consideration the other sources of fluoride that people usually get, such as fluoride toothpaste and fluoridated mouthwash.

Ontario is one of the provinces in Canada, that has the highest population with fluoridated water. To learn more about fluoride in water, don’t hesitate to contact or visit us at our dental office in Alliston. We will gladly assist you with your concerns!
